Found this thread so I hope the OP doesn't mind me tagging on the end rather than opening a new one.

I've recently found out I'm expecting our second bubba and the dates show a 19 month age gap. My wee boy is 13 months but not walking on his own yet so we've ruled out buggy boards as knowing toddlers, they can only last so long before they get tired regardless of how long they've been walking solo.

Everywhere I go I get told to try the Phil & Teds. Personally they aren't ideal as it does seem like the seat at the back is scraping the floor but they do seem compact.

I've not looked at any other buggies in the flesh yet but I wondered how the OP got on and if anyone else has any suggestions. Money is tight and we already have a Cosatto Cabi system from DS and a Maclaren buggy (from my step-daughter) that are going to be useless in 6 months. I too cannot baby carry as I've had a couple of car accidents so I have a weak back and neck.

When DD2 was small we just couldnt find a tandem to do both of them and ended up with a M&P aria twin.

When pregs with DD2 a friend got the power twin her kids are 6m older than mine but same age gap KWIM. OMG toddler and baby it was like a barge I hated it. It probably didnt helo that I was 5 months pregs streering it but I hated hated hated.

  • Hi Caz2703
I have put my search on hold for a bit as I can't seem to find anywhere locally to view the Graco or Combi pushchairs I was interested in. I think a local shop will have a Graco in at the end of the month, so I might try to see a few different models when I get enthusiastic about looking again! You don't say what your search criteria are so I don't know if the ones on my list will suit you. What are you looking for it to do?

Fiolondon, we finally got a tandem yesterday. We are stuck for independant shops over here and Mothercare seemed to be pushing the Phil & Teds without giving any other options. In the driving rain I persuaded hubby to try the independant store and they were fantastic. Got to see a fair few tandems & doubles although the only names I can remember are Jane and P&T.

We're not skint but at the same time we cannot justify paying hundreds for a new pram. As hubby said yesterday and it actually makes a lot of sense, our DS moved from travel system to Maclaren buggy at around 6 months as he was too tall so really, whatever we got only had to do for 6-8 months before a double buggy or buggy + board could be used. With that in mind when saw the Safety 1st reduced to £90 on the floor we bought it on the spot. I will admit, only when hubby picked it up later to bring home (barely fitted in his car, no way my wee car will even entertain it) that we noticed the weight. I wouldn't be wanting to take it on buses or up and down lots of stairs/steps but it's really easy to move and at that price, we weren't letting it stay there!

I have no wish to diss anyone who buys the Jane or P&T type prams but knowing how long we used our £300 Cosatto travel system for, paying any more than that for a double was out of the question. Yes, our Safety 1st is red which is a colour I detest, it's a bit on the heavy side and it didn't come with a fancy changing bag (hubby has treated me to an Oi Oi messenger bag instead!) or a Silvercross/M&P price-tag and I'm sure it won't turn heads but the money we saved will pay for more important things like the leccy bill and new stuff for Bubs (especially if it's a girl).

This is the age of more money saving and less label envy!
