That will run Windows 2000 fine - and run AVG etc. 2000 still runs most things - I know offices still running it.
The memory will probably be PC 133 - you should be able to upgrade to at least 512Mb on most laptops of that era. Some models had proprietary memory modules - check at Crucial Memory.
What laptop is it?0 -
256 mb of PC133 sdram sodimm about £6-7 del. from ebay. I've just been playing with an office network box. 300 gx1 cpu and 256 ram
I tried puppy linux and other distros that run in memory but they are greedy and use all the memory I had, ended up with a laptop hard drive with XP -no sound and video crashes it, so I'm going to try 2000 next!!0 -

You can actually install Puppy Linux to the hard drive.0 -
@ donnie -Yes , I'll try that first - it didn't have a hdd so I tried os that ran in ram. I can't hear the laptop hdd so will carry on with it. capio 508 16MB flash drive and 32mb ram - cost £5 before 256 ram and £10 20gb hdd , using it now with a usb wireless adapter. It works with torrents but really wanted internet radio.
I'm sure the laptop will be usable ,think 2000 is best option for software and drivers with limited resources pc but I'm not up on linux at all.0 -
same as donnie said you should also try Lubuntu installed as they will run a hell of a lot faster thenDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Some of the linuxes will run from a CD, so you can try it out before installing.0

i beleive this is what spakker was doing, however due to such a low amount of ram in the system they where testing on it meant everyhting ran really slowDrop a brand challenge
