Advice from plumbers re bath panels please?

Please can you advise who is right.

Our loft conversion company has just fitted front and end panels to our bath. We paid a bit more for good quality rigid bath panels. However, the way they have fitted them, the front panel is not flush with the bath and does not run parallel all down the length of the bath. At the bottom corner it is noticeably sticking out, spoiling the look of the bathroom.

The loft people say that it was not possible to do any better than this with the bath panels. They agree they don't look quite right but say that the only way to make them flush would be to cut them and that if you cut them they go floppy and useless. However, the bathroom shop say that some cutting is almost always involved and a plumber should be used to doing this.

Who is right?

Thank you for your help

LoL you nearly always have to cut them because the floor won't be level. Your loft conversion company has not got the floor absolutely level (well to be fair you wouldn't expect them to unless you were really horribly, seriously picky) so the panel doesn't fit. So adjust the floor or adjust the panel. In any case the panel shuld be fixed in place top, bottom and sides.

    Loft Convertors wrong.

    Bathroom Company right.

    Cheers

plumbers are plumbers not cabinet fitters.
if you want a pukka job then get a chippy in. the loft company should have done it.

nearly all bath panels need to be trimmed, a bit.
    Get some gorm.
  • Thank you very very much for your advice! Very helpful..

if anyone has any further comments happy to hear them!!

Bath panels are a pain in the Ar**

Nevertheless it seems like the front panel hasn't been fitted correctly.

I usually plumb down from the edge of the bath, mark the floor and fix timber to the floor, BUT the timber should be raised/packed by a few mm to accommodate the lip of the panel, that may be the problem.

Your bathroom panel has clearly not been fitted correctly, as others have said, they always require adjustment/trimming to get a good fit, insist that it is fitted correctly.
  • Thanks so much for your comments. Can I just clarify, when you cut the panel does it make it all floppy and useless as claimed?

It depends on the construction of the panel but whether it does or it doesn't if its fitted properly using manufacturer supplied bracketry etc and other supports as are needed rather than just shoving it under the lip of the bath only as far as it will go then it won't make an iota of difference. <pauses for breath :D>

That would depend on the quality/construction/installation of the panel, as suggested.

However if fitted properly it should actually fit, yours clearly does not.

Just thought that I would finish this off by saying thank you for all the help I received. This, plus the backing of the very helpful local bathroom supplier, gave me the confidence to insist it was redone. Eventually it was and is fine now (and not remotely floppy). What a load of hassle!
