Powergen Customers

Hi Guys! With the recent enrgy price hiked we suffered increase in our household utility bills.

I am a Powergen customer who's been paying £32 monthly DD but their recent announcement of price increase my DD has gone up to £78 monthly. That's more than 100% isn't it? So I rang them and argued why that much increase surely my energy consumption has not doubled in the past year? The lady in customer services said that it was based on their new price rate and my outstanding balance but nevertheless without a struggle she said she will recalculate and said how about £45 monthly.:rotfl:

I think I'll be happy with that for now as I asked a few of my neighbours and said that their paying £70-100 monthly. I was already looking at comparison website in view of moving to new energy supplier.

So to all Powergen customers the moral of the story is that, " If you don't ask you won't get it". There's no harm in trying as what Martin says. Give it a go. Good luck.

They havent given you anything.. They have reduced the monthly bill, but at the end of the year you might find you own them money if you have underpaid.. If you overpay they will credit you at the end of the year.
  • I'm with Powergen and now paying £100/month; better that than be faced with a huge winter bill in 6 months.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.
  • This happened to me with the April price rise, they put my DD up by 150%, I was incensed especially as following a very cold winter my bill was only £9 in debit, I rang up and was told that they could calculate the new DD on my usage which she did, it went up by £6 based on the new charges, I asked her what the first DD had been based on but she couldn't tell me, they just think of an arbitrarily high number because they know that the majority of the Great British Public will just pay it and they will have loads of lovely dosh to paly on the stock market with!

Have now moved to Ebico and am awaiting a big cheque from Powergen which built up over the summer

I didn't said that I've got something from them all what I have said is that if I haven't bargain and rang them up then I will be still paying £78 monthly. By next year it will mean that I might be underpaid or overpaid then I will try to haggle again.

My Gas and Electricity bills last year came to just over £1000 so a monthly payment of £84 would be needed to cover my usage.

Are you sure £45 is enough for your usage?

The £45 was to cover my outstanding balance which they have reviewed in July. We are so sensible with how we use our energy and we don't have high tech gadgets at home. We don't use our heating and our gas fires not until it's colder months sometimes late November or early December.
