Hello
I have got my computer back since it broke on Monday (and a new monitor). Thanks to all those that helped me with their advice.
I found my system restore disk that the shop created for me when I bought the computer (April 2005) and had all my programmes on it so I was happy. I only lost some C: documents I hadn't backed up
I still needed to re install the modem, itunes and various other bits and bobs.
I read the thread about backing up and it just confused me even more. Is there anywhere on this forum that gives you a step by step simple instruction on how to do it ??
I tried to do it myself last night, but when I used the windows back up, (through system tools), there wasn't an option to back it up to the DVD drive. Only A: (not going to fit on floppy disks !!) and
My comp is partitioned, so I copied my C: to my
as I figured it wouldn't hurt as it was only 4 gb worth. (I didn't lose my music / photos because of having a partitioned drive
)
How do I copy it to dvd ? I must be able to do it as it was done when I got my computer.
I also have Nero and tried to use it, but when I started the burning process it was coming up with all types of errors or was saying, 'can't burn C: as you are using programmes on it' kind of thing.
I am now paranoid about backing up, so want to get this done as soon as possible.
I also re downloaded, spy bot, spyware blaster etc, all the ones recommended on this forum so am pretty secure again.
Any advice in SIMPLE language would be appreciated.

Windows Backup can't backup to DVD or CD - that's one of its limitations. You have to backup to hard drive first then copy the backup file to CD/DVD.
Nero is better. Use Nero Express as that has a simplified interface. Just click the Add button to add the files you want to back up or drag and drop files from a Windows Explorer window.0 -

here is the link to the step by step guide for nero
I have nothing better to do!!!!

Thanks for that info.
I think I will manage the back up with the step by step guide (hopefully !)****************************0 -
You might want to think about investing in a backup hard drive - a 250Gb one is under a hundred quid, and it makes backing up a lot easier. The Maxtor drive comes with backup software and is very easy to use.0
