Car Radio Unlocking

I have my code but the unit says "locked" with a "0" down in the bottom left hand corner of the display. I am not able to enter the code. It is completely locked up. Does anyone know how to reset the radio display so that I can enter the code? I've tried disconnecting the battery but this didn't work.
