Car Radio Unlocking

Has anyone else been forced into a corner and had to fork out good money to retrieve the unlock code for your own radio?

In my opinion; if you buy a vehicle in good faith, be it new or second-hand, you own that vehicle and it's contents, including the radio. Ergo, you should have a right to the four digit code to unlock said radio. I can understand the need for codes to be stored securely and I can even understand the need for a nominal charge to cover the time it takes retrieve said code but, IMO, £25 + VAT for a bit of card with a four digit number printed on it is extortion in the extreme.

To coin a phrase "At least !!!!!! Turpin had the good grace to wear a mask"

In my opinion, such extortionate charges are on a par with the bank charges we're all fighting against.

Could there be a case here for complaining to the OFT?

If all else fails try http://www.radiocoding.com/ they do charge but, in my case, they were £5.50 + VAT cheaper than the local main dealer and the service is online, no waiting for the snail mail.

I just bought swopped cars (Citroen Saxo -> Peugeot 406) and transferred the radio from one to the other. I have the serial code but the radio doesn't seem to store it. It works fine except that I have to re-enter the code each time I start the car.
Any ideas what's going on?
