Yes it's possible the unit may have been replaced you will find the serial No. on a label on the casing of the unit, sometimes pressing buttons 1&6 or 2&6 will give you the serial on the display. (only works on some models)

Thanks Rodnai - I will try and remove it to see. Is it possible to re-set the code manually (maybe a previous owner did this). In that case am I stuffed?!
