Will try code but it's been in a 'locked' state for 3-4 weeks now ......how will I get it to return to code screen?

Well thats better than Lock 13 ( dead radio)

Firstly make sure you have the right code
to unlock it; try holding down the button 6 on your radio whilst switching your radio on, this should give you 3 extra attempts to enter the code.
if this does not work then switch on the ignition AND the radio and leave undisturbed, 9 times out of ten this will clear it, downside could take up to an hour

But lets get back to the serial number M017853
Where?how did you obtain this number?
Did you remove the radio from the dashboard.??
