Special day out in Torbay area

Next month I'll be visiting an elderly relative in Torbay and would like to take her out for a special treat somewhere. Has anyone got any suggestions of what we could do?

Not sure if this is your thing but you could always go to one of the big hotels and have afternoon tea? am sure the Imperial Hotel does it and i've heard it's very good if that's any help?

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, i had thought of that but there are so many hotels wasn't sure what would be good. Will google the Imperial. Thanks for the name.
  • Forget a hotel. Go to Cockington. They have a fantastic garden tea shop that does the best cream tea in devon. Its amazing.

Thanks - a cream tea would definitely go down well - with both of us!!

However, please keep the ideas coming as tea won't fill the whole day.
  • Definitely second the suggestion to go to Cockington! Though the tea shop is lovely (and it really is) it's not the only thing to do there. You can take a short walk up to the old manor and have a wonder around the lovely grounds. It's a pretty good place to spend a whole afternoon!

  • I live in Torbay.

Have you thought of Torre Abbey house and Gardens. Although the ground is a little uneven and there is steps going into the house. The other is Oldway mansion and gardens

There are plenty of tea rooms everywhere in the bay across Brixham through to Torquay.

How about the steam train from Paignton to Kingswear, foot ferry to Dartmouth. WEBSITE.

Plenty of nice cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops - follow that with a Dart river cruise (various destinations and durations available).

Always assuming the weather is half decent.

We've done this, you can get a round trip, train, boat, bus.......but too be honest we were bored stiff!!

We took my grandmother & depending on your elderly aunt's mobility it could be quite tiring, and there is always a push to get off and queues on and off, went did this in April so it was hardly high season either.
