Do "0845 / 0870" packages include calls to 0844 numbers?

We've recently joined Post Office Home Phone for reconnection and will soon be moving to O2 for both broadband and landline services.

In order to help curb the missus' addiction to calling 0845 / 0870 numbers from her mobile I'm thinking of taking out O2's £3 per month package of 600 mins to 0845/0870 numbers. (saynoto0870 just isn't a good enough fix for her habits!)

However with the emergance of the newer 0844 and now 0843 numbers will these be included in the package too? My guess is no but I can't seem to find the respective tariff for them on the O2 site either.

Presumably more and more companies over the coming years will be switching away from 0870 and towards the likes of 0844 so that "0845 / 0870 package" you once thought covered virtually everthing might not be worth quite as much in future maybe?

We both have mobile phone contracts, with inclusive minutes, therefore our only use for the landline will be for broadband and 0845 / 0870 calls.

So basically does O2's "600 mins to 0845 / 0870" package include 0844 numbers and secondly which is the cheapest overide provider (eg. 18585) for 0844 / 0845 / 0870 calls?

Not only are 0842/0843/0844 numbers not included O2 will charge you an arm and a leg to call them. approx twice as much as BT/Post Office Homephone.

www.18185.co.uk allows cheaper calls to 0845/0870 but not 0842/0843/0844.
But O2 dont have to allow indirect access, although they do at the moment.

Indeed, and they don't make it easy to actually find their charges.

Have they been trained by Virgin Media by any chance?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Does anyone have a link to the comprehensive list of call tariffs for 1899 / 18185 / 18866?

I'm basically looking for the PDF that has every call tariff listed like 0844 etc - not just the main one on the home page.

Can't seem to find it, it seems very well hidden.....

Your spend a long time trying to find the cost of calls to 0844 as none of those carriers offer access to them.;)

The only non geographical numbers they offer calls to are 0845 and 0870.

And, although all 3 of the above show prices for 070 (Personal numbering) calls, you'll find they connect to only those 070 numbers in the cheaper ranges.
