New windows, company ceased trading

2 years ago, my husband and I purchased all new windows and doors through a local company who were Fensa registered and had been trading for 20 years.

We had a couple of issues where they left holes under the sills and bits and pieces but in the main, they were ok.

When we paid the £6000, we got a 10 year guarantee.

Anyway, long story short, our front door lock broke a few months ago and when we went to call the company to use our guarantee, the number was disconnected.

Turns out that the company have ceased trading and now I don't know what our rights are. Reason for asking, is in these high winds of today, the air vents are whistling and I can't cope with the noise.

I wonder if anyone knows what our rights are?

Unless the guarantee was underwritten by an insurance company then your guarantee really just lasts as long as the company who gave it.

However if you took credit out to pay for the windows and doors then you can try the credit company as they are generally equally liable for defects on the same basis as the supplier although I think you would have a fight on your hands if you try to get them to honour a 10 year guarantee late into the guarantee

If the above doesn't apply you have no rights basically

Thanks Optimist - I was worried as much!

At least now that the wind has died down, I can hear myself think!
