Bedbugs - Help!!

Options
It's making me cringe to admit this - but we've got bedbugs :(

We think they came from birds nesting on our house and a hoover/disinfectant/steam clean of the bedroom hasnt worked. Any advice? I'm thinking of calling the council to spray (£60) but do these things spread beyond the bedroom? Whats the best treatment.

Have any of you had them too?

God it's so embarassing, even if it isnt our fault :( Any advice most welcome!

Are you sure they are bed bugs and not fleas ?

We have a really bad dose of fleas this year and have been bitten something rotten at night, fleas especially like legs and ankles as they are easy access for them.

We got some flea smoke bombs and have let them off in the bedrooms which has knocked them on the head, also done the animals as well with frontline as its the safer option, some of the cheaper options use organo phosphates ( bob martins ) which are nassssssty and can lead to overdoses and even death of pets.

Dh says if they are off bird nests it wont be bed bugs, it could be mites or fleas.
If its bed bugs it would be very expensive to get rid of, as it costs ££££££££££££££££'s, you may have to treat your whole bedroom with a heat bubble treatment, and crack n crevice treatment with insecticides and contact dusts????.
But dh would say get some insect monitors and lay them around the room, and check to see what they are.
Check your bed, mattress, headboard, and bed side furniture for blood spots if its bed bugs they leave blood on your bedcovers after being feeding.

    Hello and thanks all.

We're pretty sure they're bed bugs - when squashed they leave a dot of blood and we looked them up online.

I wonder how they got in then if not from the birds! Eww eww double-ewww!

Not been bitten since we steam cleaned the room and disinfected but the council are coming round to spray next week.

You can purchase kits on-line to deal with bed bugs, you first let off the smoke bomp, and then you put special powder around that kills the eggs. Do you have a divan bed and this is breeding ground for them.

Have you had anyone stay with you recently. I had them in a house I rented out, the two guys were friends so they spread from one room to the other, before getting the it on-line I replace the mattress and carpet but they were still there.

    Good luck
