Well I cancelled the gym...or so I thought

I had a letter this morning telling me I owed money for the gym membership and I coudn't cancel as I still had 7 months left on it.I am so annoyed! It's on the lowest rate so can't change that. They can freeze it for 6 months but I still have to pay £7.50 to do that.I am not happy. The only way they will cancel it is with a doctor's note saying I can't exercise and I can't get that
So that's another £25 if I use it and £7.50 if I don't.Not happy at all.

ask them to send you a copy of the contract then. I guess if they cannot prove you have a contract with them the ehole thing is null and void I guess???? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

It just seems very unfair how these companies can be so inflexible. Perhaps if you explain your situation - that you simply can not afford to continue with yoiur membership - to insist on this further payment, for a facility that you will not be using, will only cause you further hardship and probably end up in unnecessary, and costly for both sides, legal action, maybe they could relax this rule/ Probably not though.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I got caught by this too, but to be honest it my own fault because I had signed the contract for a year. They are probably extremely used to people signing up for membership and then the healthkick gradually tails off..... I know mine did.
Could you try offering them a full and final payment, or ask to drop to the minimum membership level? Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

But the when i go back to it i still have to give notice ,how ever many months left, so not really much better off.No money to pay gym and too tired to go!!!0

hi,
Most of the 'popular' gyms require you to sign up for a standard 12 months but you can sometimes get get out of this if you can get someone else to join in your place. With regards to a doctors note, I think it might be worthwhile paying a visit to your doctors for an annual MOT. This way you get a check up and it may also throw up something that could stop you exercising (flat feet, bad back, stiff joints, noise bleeds when you exercise, fear of people watching you sweat during exercise etc).
Hope this is useful. Good Luck.

Ah the joys of signing for something you no longer want.
Sadly I think all you can do is ask them for a better deal but they are perfectly entitled to the moneyWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
I'm on the lowest membership rate already-they won't drop the settlement figure-they will accept 3 postdated cheques of over £50 a time or they wil pass this onto their collections agency which adds a £25 fee so to be honest I'm better off paying the membership fee and using it and cancelling at the end of the contract
I hate this
I hate my life
I hate my financial situation.I wish I hadn't been so stupid with money.I wish I was someone else who wasn't so dumb.I can't cope with this any more
