Waterproof (peeproof) matress covers

It's probably been covered a thoussand times (I know it has) but I'm looking for a waterproof cover for single bed mattresses. Not the ones that fit on like sheets, the full covers that enclose the mattress completely and rather than be removed for washing, are just wipe down.

DS2 (5) is out of nappies at night but wets the bed. He has special needs and we have only just got him out of nappies. Now I know just putting him in a nappy would be easier, but he then poos in the nappy and that leads to problems (nappy rash, sore skin etc) so it is easier to deal with a wet bed (or beds because he will then hop into DS1's bed).

And if I remember correctly, someone once linked to waterproof duvet covers as well. Right now I'm having to wash 2 duvets on a daily basis which is fine it its sunny, but a pain to get them dry if its wet outside!

I've used products from this company before. I know they definitely do the duvet and pillow protectors and also waterproof under sheets. You might need to search around the site to see if they do exactly what you want on the mattress protectors though.

I gave up & binned the waterproof duvet cover - it was so slippery that the duvet ended up scrunched down the bottom after 5 minutes. Decided that at £6 for a duvet I could just replace if it gets really bad.

Edited to add - the ones in Nicki's link look much better than the one I'd got though (although I could replace the duvet several times over for the price!).
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!

  • I use a cheap Ikea shower curtain - I'd originally paid 99p for it & used it as a mat when kids were painting as it was so easy to wipe clean. Fast forward a few years & I use it on my DDs bed as she often wets it... It can be wiped down quickly, dries quicky & completely protects the mattress. I hold it in place with a large bath sheet.

My DD says she doesn't get as hot as she did with the white plastic mattress covers - they seemed to split & leak after a few months use anyway.

I use a sleeping bag instead of a duvet - far quicker to dry than a duvet (mine dries while hanging over a door) & DD prefers the snuggliness of a bag.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

You would probably be better off with a waterproof mattress. There are two different types. There are the ones that are PVC covered, but these have a horrible plasicy feel, and are very sweaty. Or you can get the ones that actually feel like fabric, that are much better. Beware though because many of them are budget mattresses, so you would be better off with one that is slightly higher spec, so that you can't feel the springs.
