Get yourself a linux disc and boot your PC with that. Especially if your internet connection is slow / dropping it will help rule out any operating system based problems. Isolating the problem to one area or another is a big step towards solving it. You could be chasing your tail for ages trying to hunt down the fix within Windows when it may not be there (i.e. hardware), although my money is on some kind of malware unfortunately.

Also be suspicious of links that say "click here for a fix", the post above with the link "Fix this problem" leads to what looks like a ms support site and is likely legitimate but you should always be careful.

You could try disabling windows search if its in your services ,or disable indexing service, which I think is the same thing - I don't have windows search in my services list but I do have indexing. This is not critical and can be reversed , I've disabled it on my pc.
