I have just received a quote for 260 meters of 25mm MDPE pipe to be fitted from the mains stop !!!! to the house
It is to be fitted alongside a hardcore unmade drive (completely off the public highway)
Total price £4850 plus vat
seems high to me, as I was expecting about £10 per meter
Any views, but I am going to find more quotes

You can hire a micro excavator for £264 per week. 250m pipe cost £70. You'll need suitable fittings for each end and if you're not up to doing it yourself, a local Jack Of All Trades. Should save £4000.0

I was under the impression that there were regulations aboout fitting water pipes0

From the Mains Stopcock to your home the piping is your responsibility and is owned by you. You can check with your council if building regs are required, but I believe BR's in this instance only cover drainage and waste disposal neither of which applies here.0

I'm in the process of building another bathroom onto my house. because of the location I don't need planning permission but do need BR's as I'm installing a waste pipe to the main sewer.0

It has got me thinking
I can find a man with a digger at a reasonable rate, to do the trench. I am awiting a recommendation from someone who knows
Then all the specialist would have to do is the technical work
Thanks for the idea0 -
Hi, completely new to this but work for local council in scotland, if you are replacing an existing lead water pipe it may be worth investigating if there is a grant available for this work, we give minimum 50%.0

Wow! and think of the money you'll make off 260m of scrap lead!0

I was researching and other water companies do similar
My pipe is galvanished iron, apparently, so no luck there0 -
Finally got a quote at 50% of the initial price
pays to shop around I guess0
