Newbie advice?

What essential money saving tips would you give to a newbie?

i.e I have acquired a Tesco Clubcard, Nectar Card and Co-op card to gain points and vouchers and such like.

What else should I be taking advantage of?

Also forgot to say, if you do have sky phone up and tell them you want to cancel, they wont let you i promise, they will offer you a cheaper price for your package, i got mine lowered from £21 a month to £18 and they switched on the sports channels!! Thats the £38 package for only £18 a month.

  • Just signed up nidje, is this what you're reffering to dlb when you say piggybank points?

Is pigsbank and quidco the same sort of thing? If so how do you choose which one to use?

How about changing bank accounts are there many benefits to that?
  • Referring to DLB's comment about Sky, it works for NTL too :)

Make sure that you are not blinded by the idea of points cards - it's no use buying a tin of beans from a shop costing 45p where you get a penny's worth of points when you can buy the same beans from a different shop for 35p.

Almost all of my points come from petrol (perk of my partner's job is that he gets to keep the points he earns when he fills up the work van!) so it's worth thinking about Sainsbury's Nectar points when you fill up.

  • Have you got a boots loyalty card? If you buy stuff from there, and check the machines from time to time theres some good offers. Its a very generous points card and a good deal if you'd already be getting the stuff anyway.
