LX Direct/Very Insurance on Purchases and Payments

Hi

Yesterday I was ringing up to pay off my account. Whilst on hold, i read through all the pages of my last statement. Normally I just read the front page wich states the following information:
You Total from Last Month
Payments Received
Purchases, Charges and Adjustments
Your New total

Every month i never read through the rest of the pages as the front told me what i needed to know. Yesterday i noticed that the second page showed further information on the above as follows:
Your total from last month
Service charges; This included Interest and Shopping Insurance Covers your Purchases and Payments
Your new Total

Whilst on the phone I asked the advisor what the shopping insurance was and when i got it as I didnt remember asking for it, His response was that probably when I opened the account there would have been an option to opt out of it! I decided then not to cancel my account yet and informed him that I would be looking into this as i didnt think this was fair.

I really think the statements are really misleading, and I personally feel that I have been missold this as I never even new about the opt out option as i registered for the account online!

Would I be eligible to claim back the insurance? I looked at the questionnaire and it doesnt seem to apply very well to this siutation, so I am unsure as to how to go about this. Should I ring and complain first or should I just write to them? I am not even sure how much I have paid on this, as I have had the account for years going back to when it was LX Direct.

Please advise on my best course of action

Thanks

    Hi and welcome.

If mis sold the policy for any reason then you can of course make a reclaim on this, even if you cancel it you can request they refund you all you have paid in ppi towards this an interest.

If you no paperwork, you can (optionally) request for a Subject Access Request) in short a SAR, they have 40 calendar days to comply and send all they still hold on your account.
You enclose a payment of £10 cheque or postal order for this request.
There is a SAR letter template for this here:

In regards of the questionnaire, just complete to the best of your knowledge, you can of course enclose a cover letter in your own words if you want to as well, if you don't feel the questionnaire is beneficial to you - you can write a letter of your own to make a reclaim, give them your reasons and remember to state they have 8 weeks to respond.

Also keep copies of all letters sent as well, in case you need to refer to them at some point.

You send to whoever sold and set up the policy.

    Hope this helps, good luck.;)

I had a look at the SAR request. Does this still apply with catalogue companies, as it seems to be aimed mainly for loans.

    Thanks

    Hiya

Your welcome and yes this applies to any accounts.;)
You may just have to tweak the letter a little, and not add all the info if you know what I mean.;)
