I used the administrator a/c to create another user a/c for my computer. It is set up as a standard user with a password to log in.
When I log into ac, I am able to personalise the ac settings. ie display settings, theme, desktop etc but the changes I make, are not saved when I log out. A pop up read something like:
Your settings was unsuccessfully saved, you have been given a temporary profile. Check your ? log or contact your administrator.......................
Any ideas? I hope I'm making sense. Any help appreciated.

I assume you're creating a local user account and not a domain user account. If you don't know the answer, then it is most likely a local user
Try tho reboot and login as Administrator. Then browse to C:\Document and Settings\ (XP) or c:\Users (>Vista) right-click on the user's folder and select Properties -> Security tab. There you should have full access for Administrator, System and the user itself. Then click Advanced, tick the box [x] Replace permission entries... and Apply. Now close everything and login as the user and try again.
If this still doesn't work, delete the user and his profile folder (if there are no documents from him in it), reboot and create the user again.

Thank you for your help. I deleted the user and recreated it again and it worked:)
However, I have another question.:o
On the control panel, users, I have just the one new a/c (deleted the old one like you said)
On the computer, user files, I still have 2. When I try to delete the old one which is empty, it wont let me because a pop up states that some files/programs are shared and if I delete it then I would lose the files/programs?
Again, I hope you can understand me and thank you for any advice.0 -

Did you restart after you deleted the old user? If not, there might be still his registry hive loaded in memory. Just restart and try again.
You could also right-click on My Computer -> Advanced Tab -> User Profiles/Settings and post what you can see there. If there is an "unknown" user profile, delete it. But make a backup of your data before you hold me responsible for data loss...0
