I am so cross I really like internet shopping with Asda but come this time of the month they always tie up 2 payments out of my account so I cannot get petrol.
I phone the bank and they say they cannot cancel the second payment as its Adsa problem but when I phone Asda they say its the banks problem all I want is access to my money

I've shopped online with asda 3 times this year. All 3 times there was only enough money to cover the shopping bill, i.e. the shopping was £66.78 and only £70 pounds in my account.
Never had a problem with them tying up two payments. So I guess the answer is not have enough money in your bank to allow them to do that.
If I were you I'd open a second account just for asda and only transfer enough into it to cover your shopping.0 -
I have read on here others posting the same comments about ASDA authorising two payments, although only taking one. They must authorise when you place the order and rather than complete the transaction they make a second authorisation when they pick the goods.
Not much help because it ties up one of the payments for several days until the authorisation lapses.0 -

Yes I know and Asda are saying its the banks fault because they are holding it and not Asda, so frustrating especially at the end of the month0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. My bank (Smile) called me one weekend with an automated fraud service that had spotted "unusual" activity on my account. Turned out to be Asda taking out £1 (which never appeared on my statement - they must have cancelled it) when my wife put in an online order. The true payment was then taken the day after the order.
I can understand Asda wanting to check that they can take a payment but some banks can be sensitive to these £1 values as it can be people testing out cloned/stolen cards with small value items.
Not sure how it affects buying petrol though?0 -
Not sure how it affects buying petrol though?
Because OP doesn't have enough in their account to cover shoppingX2 and still be able to go get petrol. Their bank see the shopping X2 as pending transactions and therefore won't allow access to the funds as they are already allocated.
I'm sure I am going to get shot down on this one but if OP can get a credit card and get that set up to clear by DD every month could they not buy the shopping and petrol etc on that meaning they do not have to have twice the amount of funds in the account at the time of purchase? (assuming OP gets a high enough credit limit of course).0 -
I never had a problem with Asda, until 1 shop I did, I accepted subs, and because the total balance when my shopping was picked, was a different amount to when I placed the order, both payments were coming from my account. The first amount (when I paid online) was on hold, and the second amount was processed too.
OK, you do get the first lot of money back (well they don't even actually take it, it's held, but it does mean that it comes off your balance with your bank), but it's all the messing about, it's a pain in the backside!
I did have a big ding dong with Asda over this and suggested that if the actual final payment is different, why on earth can't they just take or refund the difference, instead of processing the whole amount. They didn't want to know.
My bank on the other hand the Co-op, knew all about this and 'refunded' the money back to my account straight away. They said they weren't happy as this happened a lot with their customers.
It's not the banks fault, it is Asda's fault, so I don't know how the have the nerve to suggest otherwise!
I've not used them online since.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I'm with shellsuit. Don't use them. It's a ridiculous thing to do in practice. Sure, we all understand why they do it, but to effectively hold double the amount for a couple of days, thus inconveniencing you, is farcical.
It's the kind of thing that they'll only stop doing once enough people complain or stop using their service as a result. A consolidated approach is needed and I'd love this to be taken up by a consumer rights campaigner like which or national newspapers. In the meantime, ufimbo, if you can't get your bank to help (and why should you have the hassle of forever contacting them?) use another supermarket. As this is for online deliveries (therefore it doesn't matter how near you are to a store), I assume you can get a similar service from, say, Tesco. Although they might well do the same...!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Thanks for your input I would love someone to take this up too. My Bank is the Coop and they let me have my money in the end but said they were doing me a special favour and could not keep doing itand it could take up to 10 days to drop off my account if the bank did not cancel the holding amount.
