If you're after the savings safety page see FSCS questions

When we met the Financial Ombudsman recently we reported that there had been quite a lot of disgruntlement from MoneySavers especially about how long the process has been taking.

As part of it we asked if the Senior Ombudsman would agree to be interviewed by MSE with questions from MoneySavers - they have. So know we want to know what you'd like us to ask - whether about delay, how the Ombudsman operates, how it makes decisions or more...

However this isn't a "sort my case" out interview, though feel free to use your own personal situation as an example of an issue.

Is it right that an airline I book tickets with should pass the flight details to my credit card agency?
I recently received my credit card statement with exact flight details listed next to the entry.
No wonder they called me with a travel insurance offer just after I booked the tickets.

    Thanks,
    Chris.
  • Why are financial institutions allowed to charge a days extra interest for a leap year when you borrow money but do not pay a days extra interest when you lend them money?
  • Why does it take so long? I've been waiting 2 years for a final Ombudsman response!
Help me to help you :santa2:

    Hi

Is it still possible to reclaim bank charges? My daughter and son-in-law are potentially owed thousands but have been put off by thinking that they would have to identify all the charges. Can they just ask for all charges to be repaid going back 6 years, of do they need comprehensive information before they proceed? They are on the verge of bankruptcy, so the money would be very useful and possibly save them from going down this avenue.
  • I complained to the FO re' mis-sold PPI from Barclays & the fact they simply repeatedly said they were unable to answer the query "at present" all the time - clearly using underhand delaying tactics.
The FO despite numberous reminders failed to address this (including opening 2 complaints against this one complaint thus delaying further) until a YEAR had passed.
Ironically, the sort of service I was complaining to the FO about.
    Surely this is unacceptable?

The FOS is overwhelmed with complaints. What is the point of the FOS dealing with the same type of complaint time and time again? It's a waste of time and resources.

If one financial organisation has been so inept and the FOS finds in the consumers favour, then the FOS is likely to deal with the same type of complaint from other consumers. Why not ask for some teeth? Fine the organisations for each repeated complaint. Maybe £1,000 for the 3rd identical complaint, £10,000 for the 4th, £100,000 for the 5th and so on. Ultimately we should end up with fining the Directors personally as this will be the only way to stop complaints. But my suggestion is too sensible.

  • I am trying to transfer bank accounts from Alliance & Leicester to Halifax, i started the process back in May and it has still not been completed due to A & L's tardiness in providing my DD's and Standing Orders to Halifax, whilst this delay has been ongoing i have incurred bank charges from A & L which i have written to them to appeal against on the basis that if they had done there job properly regarding the account transfer in the first place my account with them would not exist so would thus be unable to incur the charges!

Surely i would have some kind of case to have my charges refunded to me?
  • I welcome the recent enforced changes to how credit card companies can charge interest, but further improvements need to be made. E.g: Why, when the faster payments scheme (FPS), is now being almost universally used in the UK by banks and BS, are the credit card depts. of these companies deliberately using sort codes that do not accept faster payments? It is obviously to unfairly screw those trying to get out of debt for 3-5 days interest. Also credit card companies should have to notify customers by email immediately a monthly credit card statement becomes available to view and pay online, thus enabling customers who are willing and able to pay off their debts as quickly as possible. Many credit card holders are probably unaware that they can pay off their CC bills immediately with online banking rather than wait for the payment due date thus saving about 3 weeks of interest on their debt. The financial regulators should be forcing CC companies to publicise clearly on every statement and online that this is a payment option. Also why are banks and building societies not being forced to use the FPS to transfer customer's savings to current account or savings accounts held in other banks or BS's? There is now no excuse for customer's money to remain in the ether for 3+ days enabling these huge wealthy institutions to steal interest from their customers! Why are they being allowed to get away with it?

Is it right that when booking a hire car on-line that car hire companies are allowed to supply an alternate car to the one I have selected?
If holiday firms did the same we would all be up in arms.
I think the law should be changed to outlaw this practice.

What does this have to do with the FOS?
