Private Rheumatologist, West Yorks?

Options
hello everyone :)

i was wondering, well, hoping really, if anyone knows of a good, preferably female private rheumatologist in the west yorkshire area? I found out via my doctor yesterday that Calderdale and Huddersfied NHS trusts only rheumatologist left years ago and they've never replaced him. The pain clinic i go to, well, am supposed to go to, haven't been in months and my next appointment isnt till January cos the 'specialist nurse' i see is on maternity leave, and even then ive already been told she'll be discharging me because of my mental health issues. Im sick and tired of being told they won't do anything because i have MH problems, they blame all my physical pain on that, despite the fact my joints are swelling like balloons on a daily basis, I had an accident at work at 18 which led to my severely bad back and ive had hypermobility all my life.

sorry for the rant, im getting desperate!

thanks very much
Leanne :)

Calderdale & Huddersfield Trusts top Rheumatologist was Prof Dennis McGonagle . He is a top researcher in this field and holds a chair at Leeds University among others.

You may still be able to contact him through Elland private Hospital

Or try some of the links on this Google search

Have found these on the web.

  • Dr Chamberlain was my Rheumy Dr at St James in Leeds for Years, dunno if you can see her privately though?
  • Rheumatologists are scarce I think, theres only one at Blackpool at the moment so appointments are like gold dust, but you should ask for the Rheumatologist nurse, they are as good if not better, they can administer and get the doctor to administer drugs to keep you going, I'd be in a right mess if it wasn't for mine.

    Hello J

Just wanted to say thankyou to everyone who has contributed to my post, the information given has been really helpful and had given me some options to go back to my GP with, see if she will refer me to one elsewhere than Halifax/Huddersfield, if not I still have the option of paying privately (eek, £200!). Either way, I now have some solid information to go on, so thankyou very much once again!

I was thinking of referring myself but was unsure about the cost and how to get the appointment.
    What would the £200 cover?
    Good luck
