Which you weren't.2 I said at the begining that I know that I will not get anyhwere
Not surprisingly.3 The fact remains that this pension has performed terrible. The advice thats its been a good performer shows that dunstonh has no idea on what he is talking about
Actually it shows you don't know what you're talking about.4 The front end charges and costs were not advised
How can you be sure of that?
You have changed your story several times during the course of the thread yet you clearly remember you weren't advised of charges and costs but can't remember when you actually started the pension. To the two idiots who give bad advice
Ridiculous way to treat people who are giving their time and knowledge freely. You clearly have a lot to learn and not only about pensions.0 -
I haven't known whether to laugh or cry at some of the posts on the pension forum today, and this particular one is a good example. No idea how the IFAs and more clued-up posters keep their cool so well despite this nonsense.
Still, it's made me smile...:D
I'm not an IFA but just somebody who's learned about pensions through sorting my own, starting a SIPP etc., and I agree with what dunstonh and the others are saying.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Incredible how IFA's on this forum support the mis selling of private pensions. Disgrace and the IFA's should hold there heads in shame.0

There are only three IFAs posting on the forums. I am the only active one in this section at the moment (apart from Whiteflag popping in and out from time to time). Where is your evidence to support your claim that I support mis-selling?
You should hang your head in shame for making ignorant and stupid remarks like that. You are just typical of the worst in British society at the moment where you prefer to complain and whinge about things you know nothing about rather than learn and understand. You prefer to make things up and remain ignorant so you can rant and rave and just make yourself look stupid to those that do take the time to understand and learn.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I just googled Abbey Life and I see that they were fined £1,000,000 for the bad selling mortgage products.
Dunstonh, in my opinion the OP has had a very, very poor deal.
You have stated and I quote "The fact is though that both funds have performed in line with their sector averages or just above. So, they are not bad performers".
The OP stated that he invested with his pension tax advantage £36,845. The OP stated that the pension is worth £43,500 (£47,500 cash value).
So I can see that in my opinion your advice that the funds has done ok is wrong advice.
The OP started this thread asking the question about what can be done and does he have a case? Perhaps the answer is no and perhaps the OP has made a few maths errors but at least he checked the figures and revised the figures.
I have a question to you. You stated:-
"The fact is though that both funds have performed in line with their sector averages or just above. So, they are not bad performers".
Are you prepared to stick to your comments or are you prepared to ammend in light of amended figures stated by the OP?0 -
OK . I'm outa this thread. Nothing more can be added except, perhaps, a mournful lament about the mentality, intelligence and curiousity of the average Brit in early 21st century.
What has happened to this country?0 -

You are talking about yourself.
If you bother to come back are you saying that this Abbey Life pension has done very well?0 -

There seems to be a lot of confusions - most notably on the part of the OP himself - about what it is he actually bought so it's hard to comment.
Given that dunstonh has worked out that the SAME product that the OP says he has has done considerably better than the OP claims (based on the OP's contributions), I suspect the answer is very hard to state.
IF the OP is in that pension and has made the contributions he says, it's hard to square that with dunstonh's figures and - frankly - given dunstonh does this for a living and has access to all the relevant data, I believe him over the OP anyday.
But the point is moot. The discussion isn't around whether the pension has done well or not. It's whether it was mis-sold.
And there is nothing to suggest it was mis-sold.0
