Amazon book sold, buyer wants to return item as wrong edition

I recently sold a book on amazon marketplace, I checked the isbn to double check I had the correct book but the buyer has now emailed me asking for a refund as its the wrong edition. The book cover certainly matched the one I had when i listed it but that was sometime ago. The book cover has now changed and says revised edition.
I did email Amazon about this as didn't think this was really my fault (?) i normally just double check the isbns as when I list books I always make sure I have the right cover and if not will state this in my listing. They said I should really accept the book back but it was up to me what I should do re postage. I could offer the buyer money to cover their postage on returning the book to me, or I could refund the postage that they have paid to me?

How much are we talking here?
There are a couple of times I have ordered on market place and the books haven't been as described so I have sent an email and they have refunded and told me to keep the books. They didn't cost much though...Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0 -
Amazon are more buyer centric than ebay so if they open a claim more than likely they will win. If they return the book to you you have to refund the full original payment including original postage. The returm postage if you are a private seller is up to you if you refund this.0

Only made about £3-£4 profit from what I remember. If I get them to return the book to me and I return both postage back to me and what they paid guess I would have to refund about £4.50 as they would have paid £2.75 postage to start with. Reckon I would personally be out of pocket by £3 ish if all that makes sense!0

Personally I would just tell them to return the book and then just issue a refnd of th eriginal amount paid, and nothing else. The buyer may well be happy with that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. you can check what edition the book is by looking inside it......there should be a page that mentions copyright, publisher, isbn and when first published and if the book is not a first publication it'll say when that edition was published
for instance i've got a copy here of wild hops by sally worboyes
isbn = 978 0 340 79374 9
copyight = 1994
first published in gb in 1994
published in paperback this edition in 2001
definately not a first edition!
perhaps this info could be used in your listings if you have alot of customers wanting first editions0
