More negative brit comments the 2 guys on dragons den with the magic wand , great idea and I think will be a popular gift this xmas . Comments on one newspapers website by the british public (majority negative).
I guess BBC programmes like Mary,Queen of Shops and Dragon's Den have made a few more Brits think about doing their own thing.

I suppose the downside of the American can do attitude is that people there can operate a series of failed businesses that would see you banned as a director here. These businesses are leaving strings of creditors who are never going to be paid. There is a cost to the risk taking.

Well I do not think it is that different here to be honest, the new laws although you can be discharged as an individual after 6 months the laws are still tight if you behave in an illegal or immoral way are set up from stopping you being a director of a company , but it should be down to responsible lending by lenders also.
I have known two business men who have gone bankrupt but if we did not have risk takers we would have no jobs these two went bust one after 25 years of trading when the building trade fell his bank called in loans/overdrafts etc the other one his business folded after 12 months as many do .

What is it with all of the "negative brits" references FourCandles? We (as I assume you are not one of us??) are just a nation getting on by quite happily being dry and sarcastic. We have managed quite well for quite a few years now.

You seem mightly annoyed with it anyway, and I would say just ignore us and carry on doing what you do.

Now if we take the "brits" references out, and change it to "employees", well they are very annoying when they complain about everything (bosses, pay, unfair rules etc etc), but they never take the plunge themselves and setup in business.

It is a valid point, failing in the UK is generally frowned upon by financial institutions whereas in the states it is not so much. It would appear that it is a cultural thing that us Brits are less inclined to step outside that comfort zone that evidently you are very happy to do.

I work with dozens of business owners that have taken that plunge, some do it well, others less well but I have nothing but admiration for them that have the guts to take that risk. I don't feel I could do it myself.

Good luck to those that try - whether they succeed or fail I am sure they are better people for taking that gamble.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

Surely someone who has a username of fourcandles is almost certainly british?! I can hear the Ronnies saying it out loud in my head every time I look at the name. :D
