Trains - getting out at intermediate stations ?

I have a season ticket which is valid to travel from one station to another, bog standard. The train calls at a number of stations en route. Does anyone know, would I be allowed to get off at one of the intermediate stations, go into town and do some shopping or whatever, then get back on later to complete my journey ? Obviously there's no problem in getting off and staying at the station to catch a later train, that would be just like changing trains, but how about actually leaving the station and coming back later ? The station I'm thinking of has automatic ticket barriers, so if it's not allowed I couldn't just wing it.

Yes, a season ticket is basically an Anytime ticket valid for a predetermined period ie week, month or year.
The T&C's of a Anytime ticket state;
'Break of journey
You may start, break and resume, or end your journey at any intermediate station along the route of travel.
Break of journey for an overnight stay is allowed. Where a journey continues into the next day, travel must resume before 1200 and no further break of journey is allowed except to change trains.
Forgot to add I've used a season ticket at my start and end station automatic barriers with no problems, but never at an intermediate station barrier, but if it has barriers it will have a bloke there that you can show your ticket to, to exit the station.Whoa! Yes you can get off at an intermediate station with a season ticket.The conditions of carriage are the thing to check.

Thanks folks, that's just what I wanted to hear.
I was trying to look for terms and conditions, obviously my searching abilities are somewhat inferior to yours :-)
Thanks again.0 -
As other people have said, yes you can, but the ticket barriers at the intermediate stations may not be programmed for your ticket, so may not let you through. But all you need to do is show your ticket to the person at the barrier, and they will let you through.0

Or just leap over the fences, or down the back and across the fields.... look furtive if you can, it helps.0

Thanks - that was something that did concern me. But so long as I'm not breaking any rules by stopping there then it won't be a problem, like you say I can just show my ticket to the person at the barrier. Thanks again.0
