I have a desktop PC (windows XP) that randomly reboots.
sometimes it occurs halfway through startup, other times after PC has been on somewhile.
the number of times it is occuring is increasing.
Any thoughts as to what could be causing this ?
Thanks

If the PC does not stop on the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), then you probably have
"Automatic Restart" configured.
To disable this, do the following.
o Right click on "My Computer" and select Properties
o Select "Advanced" Tab
o Click "Settings" button in the "Startup and "Recovery" section
o In the "System Failure" section, untick the box "Automatically restart"
o Click "OK"
o Click "OK"
When the PC next detects a failure it should stop at the BSOD. When this happens, post back the
error message displayed so that we can advise further.0 -
I would suspect an overheating issue ...open up the case and see if it is full off dust & fluff ?0

Hardware - heating or something loose, or a driver trying to load and crashing
Open the case up and carefully vacuum, and push the ram and connectors to ensure that everything is in properly.
If you have installed software (or hardware) recently to cause the problem, uninstall it or roll-back windows to a previous recovery point
If things are still not good, then trying to track down a driver/software problem can be time consuming, so may be best to save important stuff and re-install windows - it will take much less time that looking for an obscure problem
Even with the BSOD stop code, you may find that you spend a whole day googling, and still be none the wiser0 -
Try to clean your RAM and check. Might be because of Dust.0

Thanks for all your replies/suggestions.
I'll start with unticking the auto-restart box for today and maybe get DH top open up and check for dust etc later.0
