Council housing questions...

In my area herefordshire, you first view the house then they make any repairs. My daughter had a house viewing that was disgusting. Total slob had lived there. broken kitchen doors, filthy bath and toilet and broken sink. graffitti everywhere. I told her to accept and we would help sort it out. Anyway they said she could move in two weeks later and the house was like new. New kitchen, new bathroom and decorated top to bottom. :T0

Decent Homes is available in my council, by 2011 all council houses would be upto a certain standard.
Ask your council.0 -
I have just signed the tenancy agrrement on my flat.
Before I signed, they place was cleaned and redecorated. Some repairs were also done. In the area in which I live this is normal.....I wasn't expecting the kitchen to look so new!
Because I am disabled the place (ground floor) is having two adaptions made for me. An outside rail by the front door, and a walk-in shower. (I needed an Occupational Therapist to visit, and a GP's note for this)
There are no carpets or curtains - but I already have cheap curtains sorted and am going to look for a carpet this week. There are reasonable priced options.0 -

Ask your council.
By 2015 ALL Social housing to be up to standard. I've been re wired, new kitchen and bathroom getting done in September.
The kitchen is SO smart! Was taken back at the ability to pick units, handles, lay out, work tops and what colours I wished. They also tile up under wall units. A LOT of money the Joiner said.
The bathroom is getting a corner shower in.
House was re roofed and double glaced not long ago also.
One thing I can say about my council is they look after the houses and the area in general.0 -

Why should we move into properties which are disgusting, just because we are in need of somewhere to live it doesn't mean they can treat us like animals.
