Will this affect me applying for a new card?

I currently have £2800 on a Virgin credit card and in the past 2 months statements I have been charged late payment fees the day before the payment has been credited to my account.

I spoke to customer services and explained that this has happened as I dont get paid till the last thursday of the month and the payment due date is usually the 1st or 2nd. He could see this from my account and has changed the payment dates.

However my promotional rate has now been taken off (1.9% till Nov) and I am now being charged approx £46 per month interest.

I am looking now to shift the balance but will these 2 late payments affect me applying elsewhere?

Yes most defiantly will effect your chances as late payments will go against you.

When you got your first late payment you should of applied for another card then, as it would of not shown a late payment on your credit report straight away.

If you give them a call, apologise and agree to set up a direct debit, then they may put your promotional rate back.

Many people on the forums have had success when doing the above.

Yeah ive spoken to them and explained the situation and they have re-instated a promotional rate of 4.9% till november but obviusly after this it will revert to the normal rate.

I currently have a credit card sitting at £0 (as ive just cleared the balance) with the RBS as i have an account with them. do you think I should try asking them about a life of balance deal?

I also have my main bank account with santander...would I be able to have one of those 0% cards with no fee ?

Possibly...subject to status. You do know it's now only 6 months 0%?

If you do decide to apply elsewhere, do it quickly before one or both of the late payments appear on your credit file.
