Steering issue
Hello.
I have a 1997 ford fiesta 1.25. Recently at speed on the motorway I've noticed the car doesn't steer straight, it appears to drift either slightly left or slightly right.
This isn't prominent at low speeds- however when turning right a squeal can be heard from the front left wheel!
Now I had my alignment done a few months ago, I tend not to bump up kerbs and avoid potholes so I doubt it's that.
I originally thought it was the wheel bearing however while I jack up the car could anyone suggest anything else to check?
Could it be the cv joints?
Im fairly car savvy and would much rather fix it myself with a spanner and a Haynes manual than waste additional money paying someone else to do it!

Could be a few things, the squeal could be a bearing, but to cause wander they'd have to be completely shot, and trust me, you'd know!
Unlikely to be the CV joints causing wandering, more likely worn balljoints, track rod ends, knackered steering UJ (although doesn't normally affect later Fiestas, early ones are notorious for wearing,) or misalignment.
Check the back of the vehicle too, rear beam bushes reguarly fail on these and cause no end of problems.
Also, as ever, TYRE PRESSURES, and check the tyres are correctly fitted if directional, and the tread wear is even across the "axles".
Regards,
