Getting a new/used car

The opening gambit from the dealer last time I changed a car was that the cost to change would have to begin with an 8.
I had done my homework, knew what mine would sell for at a main dealer, knew what I was buying would cost me and had a figure in the low 7s - it cost me low 7s.
BTW this was for a 9 month old car - easy to find through main dealers. Just do some manufacturer searches and set the age limit to less than 1 year.0 -
Hmm, just been to look at a motor. Quite nice, just what we want but they won't budge on my car + 6k. I had a budget of 4-5k. Obviously being too ambitious. I think we won't bother changing, what with wife going on maternity leave fairly soon, could be tough....Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0

I am sure with some thought and organising the C4 will continue to do you just fine.Mortgage free

Any advice for that? Do you go to dealers/private etc?
Dealers for young cars in my view. I view 1 year old cars being sold privately with a degree of suspicion, rightly or wrongly!
I picked up mine 1 year old, 6K on clock and 7K off list. Cracking. OK you can get 3K off list normally but still decent! :rotfl:0 -
My solution to a similar problem was to "downsize" what we were carrying. Prams / buggys come in all sorts of different sizes. Some will fold down very small indeed.
If your toddler is like mine, they will soon not want to be in a buggy and prefer to walk / stand on those buggy boards I have seen.
We recently went on holidays locally and used a roof rack for the extras.
A couple of hundred pounds on a new buggy / roof rack will be significantly less than changing your car.
Not as exciting as a new car though!0 -
Yes, have to agree with you. We have a roof rack and box (for kayaking) so, even if we drove around with that on all the time, still work out cheaper than a new car!Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0
