Giftcard with a balance - Can I donate it?

I have just been watching Dragons Den and saw the idea of donating giftcards to charity.

I have a giftcard with a balance. Due to circumstances I am not going to use the giftcard within the prescribed timeframe. I would like to donate the balance to a specific charity. I have googled this but havent found anything to suggest that I can do this.

Can anyone advise me?

The quick'n'easy way from your point of view is just to post the GiftCard off to them. We'd go out and spend it, but then we buy a wide range of high street products.

If there's a way of getting the balance off a gift card and into our bank account, however, I'd love to know about it!

Why not use eBay for Charity to sell the card and donate 100% to the charity?

Did you watch Dragons' Den the other night? There were a couple of guys who wanted to start up a 'gift card selling' website which would give you cash for your gift cards. If it was up and running, you could have got money for it and given the money to charity! I think it's a good idea myself!
