Moving abbey student account to Halifax student account.

I am looking to switch from abbey to Halifax. The thing is if they are going to offer me such a low limit then there is no point. I will get my student loan/grant paid into there but also my wages which are £450+ a month. Do you think they will at least match abbey's overdraft facility that I have at the moment?

I would like their £2750 as i am in my final year but it looks as if many other students on the board are not getting this high limit.

Any advice would be helpful.Thanks.

  • I think your best bet is to pop into a Halifax branch armed with your ID, proof of address, and six-months worth of bank statements from your Abbey Student account...

Talk to an adviser, and see what they can do. They may have to copy all your statements to send them off to head office (or whatever) to see whether you can get the full overdraft.

You're probably best off running both accounts simultaneously for a few months - keep the overdraft at Abbey, and use the Halifax account as your main one... they should see this and eventually offer the full OD amount.
  • Yeah you don't get the full £2750 straight away - they have to see credits to show the fact you can afford the overdraft - then it can be increased later
