Tax Credit Renewal or Not!

I was just wondering if anyone else had not received their renewal pack. I rang towards the end of July and was told by the enquiry line that they would send a message to Head Office to send one. At the end of July I had still not received it and so rang again, again to be told one would be issued. This again did not appear, so I rang again and was told that one would be issued in time and that I did not need to worry about the end of July deadline as an extension would be put on til I received my renewal pack. I just wondered if anyone else had any trouble with their renewals, as we are now near the end of August and I still haven't rec'd the pack.

Hi, I tried for weeks to get through to them to renew - so I gave up!

Instead I wrote a letter and enclosed the completed worksheet they sent with the renewal pack by recorded delivery on the 14th July 2010, just after I had received my July payment.

Having heard nothing from them since, I telephoned them today only to be told that they will not be renewing the Tax Credits for this year as the letter (according to their computer system), had not been actioned by them by the final date - 30/7/10!

By pure chance some 30 mins later the post came with a letter from them dated 11th August????? saying that they are not renewing and asking for the whole of the money received since 5/4/10 - £2334.43.
    to be repaid.

So rang them again - got through - wow!!, Yes they want the money back and will be arranging for a payslip to be sent to me.
Explained that the renewal was sent by Recorded Delivery - 14/7/10. Sorry they said, you are too late - it should have been sent earlier as it needs to be dealt with by us by the end of July!!

Told him that I can prove it was sent and no doubt can prove it was signed for before that date. I was told it doesn't matter if I do that - the end is the end!!!

Then he asked if I could let him have the details again - don't be daft, they (the originals) were in the damn envelope sent to you! He said he must have them by 11/9. Errr yes - you have them already!

So will now have to go throught the whole thing again and ring them back - once more before 11/9!!!!

My days at HMRC are a dim and distant memory - but hey, I would have had to answer to 'God' in Whitehall if I had dealt with the public like they do today. Civil servants always used to sign their letters - 'your obedient servant'.
  • I think its a major problem this year, and I don't think its down to the general public, the HMRC are making mistake after mistake!

They have stuffed mine up too, I rang all my end of year figures through, received my amended 09-10 award and as wages were slightly different to my estimated figure was told that I owe £85 for 09-10 which can be paid out of my 10-11 claim. I also received the award notices telling me how much I would be receiving for the 10-11 tax year and the payments have been going in steadily as normal at the new weekly rate.

THEN on the 19th of August I get a letter dated the 11th of August saying that as I have not renewed my claim my payments will stop and I will have to repay all the money I have had since April.......WHAT????

I checked my bank and sure enough, the money that should have gone in the day before had not gone in, meaning a switch payment I had made would take me over my overdraft - sending me into a state of total panic having paid a £45 charge the month before!

I phoned, the chap looked on the system, could see that I had phoned, and just said that it "hadn't gone through properly" and that he "didn't want to get into why it hdn't gone through" I didn't ask why it hadn't gone through I had asked why if I hadn't renewed had I had my 09-10 end of year figures sent through and my latest adjustments according to my 09-10 earnings..........

I will get the money back-paid apparently but that doesn't help in the meantime when I have no money for school uniforms, and although my son could get away with last years 'divorcing his ankles and marrying his knees' trousers for a couple of weeks, my daughter goes to another school and has to have a different type of skirt to last year (the school is very very strict about dress code). I haven't bought the uniforms earlier in the holidays as both of my kids always have a massive growth spurt through the holidays, in fact my son has grown about 2 inches in the past few weeks and my daughter about 1.5...........

If the money isn't back in my account by Thursday I have to ring again........I assume I will be ringing Thursday!!!

It makes me sooooo cross, we totally rely on this money.........
I believe that I have the strength to make my dreams come true

Why do people complain about HMRC when they do not understand the system. When your sending the renewal in your are not meant to send in covering letters working sheets p60s god knows what else people send in. Your only meant to send the renewal which is scanned through a computer.

Most people do not know the information required to make changes of circumstances hence TCO would written to you asking for further information and you had reply by 30/7 because you did not get that back they did not actioned anything you gave them. Hence it is your fault and why you need to supply everything again.

I know they could improve the website give clear information what is required to update changes.

You say you were trying for weeks to get through at before sending in your renewal in 14/07 thats false statement as were only constantly busy from middle on July. Again your lying about them saying you'll be sent a payment slip asking for the money back if you called the helpline they would have said they would restore your claim and if you did then you would not have to paid it back

This person is classic example of why it is busy. Gets a letter saying renewal not completed common sense would make you think maybe should have information that gave during the renewal when calling. So instead of one call has to make 3. People can help by making sure they have all the information ready before calling

This is very rare. Obvious 8million renewals computer generated they are going to be some cases where they are problems. TCO now have to manually create one which could take a few weeks, your payments should not stop and you will be given your own deadline to complete the new renewal
