PS2 Laser replacement

We've been given a slim PS2 by a friend and although I have no interest in Playstations (I'm a Nintendo fan for over 25 years) I thought I could give it to my kids to keep them quiet.
Only problem is the Laser is dead.
I know they are not very expensive, but how easy are they to replace.
I'm pretty good at taking things apart and I'm a skilled engineer so it's not a case of not having the skills to do it, but is it worth it, or could I buy a working 2nd hand unit for the price of the laser and time to replace it?

[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Pretty sure you can pick up a 2nd hand one for less than £20 nowadays. The lasers can be found on ebay for less than a tenner! check the ps2 version you have first tho!Useful is beautiful0
