What's going on with Dell.
Looking at wizmark and dmx dimension sites, prices seem to have been lobbed up by about 20-30 (and more) percent in the last 6 months.
Even their rubbish 300 quid model is £350 now.
Used to be able to get a desktop and monitor for a lot less than 300 quid. £430 is cheapest I can see in a quick glance.
Ebuyer it is. As much as I am sceptical of Acer component quality...

How else can they make over 500 million dollars in the may-july 2010?0

In addition to the poor £, there are shortages of RAM and hard drives which all put the prices up.0

With Dell, the trick is to phone their Indian sales line and go through the motions of telling the agent what you want etc. Then when you finally get to the price, sound shocked, and ask for it to be checked. Then say that your business colleague recently got the same thing for [insert amount] cheaper.
If nothing moves say that you are going to ask your colleague for his account manager's name. and will phone back later and order from them instead. Say that you really want to order now, but the price is way too much.
IIRC there was a certain time to do this for best effect due to sales targets to be met, so more willingness to negotiate. It may be towards the end of the month, but I am not sure0 -

And get frustrated when they get your name wrong 5 times ask for your email address 5 times over to confirm the spelling and on the email they address you as Bob even though your email is tom@whatever, I got a good deal on the internet from a reseller, got more ram and dual HD's for roughly the same price as what Dell wanted to charge.

That's the thing. Normally, anyone sensible would avoid an Indian C/S like you would a dodgy curry house.
But it's possible to use their lack of understanding of what you are trying to do (ie barter them down) to your advantage. Play along with them ask them thier names and how the weather is etc, and get the good deal0 -
