Heirloom wood comes from Indonesia I believe, not sure about Oak Furnitureland.
Anyway, as for our matress it's a Hypnia one, reflex foam with 3" memory foam.
You would be far better off buying a good solid pine bed hand made in the UK, than buying a cheap imported oak or mahonany one.
As for your mattress, you weren't taken in by their false advertising were you? As far as their quality goes for a reflex foam/memory foam mattress they may be ok. I personally don't like that type of mattress.
One problem with reflex foam is that it is made up from loads of small bubbles. These bubbles can in time start to burst, which can eventually lead to dips in the mattress, which they regard as normal wear and tear. The same can hapen to the bottom of the mattress if it doesn't have enough support. So if the base you buy is made in the UK, then request that they add extra slats in order to make the gaps between them quite small. If you do buy an imported base then I would lay a sheet of pegboard or hardboard over the slats.0 -
Hi Tim,
For the money the Hypnia memory foam was well worth it, much comfier than our old sprung mattress and cheaper than high street all foam types. Of course would have loved to get sprung memory foam etc, but can't for the foreseeable future so £150 was bearable. Will bear in mind the bubbles need more support, thought it could tear but had no idea foam could de-bubble over time!
We currently have a divan base so it's fine, only thing that bugs me slightly is that with foam on a divan it moves alot more when you make the bed, but that would be fixed with a nice new bed
I do love the idea of mahogany instead of pine, so I guess we'd have to either compromise and buy imported (which yes is less green and quality not as good) or save for ages to get a real UK made oak one (Heritage beds charge £700ish, plus £300 for the drawers I'd like, eek...). Truth is we'd be waiting another 2 years, I might have to give up the idea alltogether...:oMFW #185

That's why I said go for smaller independent pine furniture manufacturers. There are loads of them in the Yorkshire area, and many will also manufacture oak beds for far less than some of the big outlets.0 -
Thanks Tim I will have a Google and see if I can find some independents, might strike lucky!MFW #185
