Options
The cd/dvd drive on my desktop is not functioning. Is it something correctible in the computer or should I get an external drive?

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

Things that might prompt it back into life include check the connections into the back of it are not loose, hop into device manager and uninstall/reinstall drivers for it.

The other option of course is to pay £50 and upgrade to a Blu-Ray player....

(...but not if your PC doesn;t meeet the minimum Blu-ray requirements or isn't suitable for watching films on due to small screen/tucked away in a study etc etc :p)

Check in Device Manager to see if Windows thinks it is working normally. If it shows an error code (usually something like Error Code 41) then follow the article below to fix it:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461

That one is for Vista, but the procedure is similar for almost every other version of Windows.

If it doesn't get used often, the lense will be covered in a layer of grease. Lense cleaning discs are a waste of time at this point.
