How can I tidy up/ speed up computer ?

I have seen thread on this but can not find it. How can I safely tidy my computer up (ie rid it of all the garbage put on by various companies when visiting their websites)

Does ccleaner do the same kind of job as http://www.evidenceeraser.com/www2/download2.php - for example, which has been recommended previously?
It seems to be marketed slightly differently, less on privacy angle but more on freeing up space.0 -
