Ask the shop to take it/bank it/wait till it's cleared/ then let you have the goods.0

They have said that their bank account no longer processes cheques. I have spoken to the insurance company now and they say that there is nothing they can do. I understand both of these positions but am a bit confused about mine.
Surely as more and more shops stop taking cheques this is a looming problem for many?0 -
I would comaplin to the insurer and start a formal complaint if necessary.
I think the shop are being awkward but you have no right to insist the shop sell anything to you and you have no control over them however stupid their policy seems.
You have a contract with the insurer and an unaccpetable form a payment does not fit the bill in this case.
So I think the shop is being awkward, but you need to push your insurer as they are the party that you have a contract with.
Start a formal complaint. This often goes to a seperate department to the people you are dealing with right now and sometimes it has quite swift consequences because it goes to a set of people who can actually do something. The claims person you are speaking to may simply have no option to do anything.
So I think the shop are being stupid, but you have no power over them. You do have options with your insurer starting with a formal complaint.0 -
ask if the shop will accept a bacs payment and if so ask the insurers to issue a bacs payment0

I'm not at all comfortable that the settlement cheque wasn't made out to the policyholder in the first place. The insurer can't dictate where the insured buys replacements, or even IF the insured buys replacements. Totally the Insured's choice, once quantum is established.42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0 -
True, but if you go down that route would you really be happy to accept an indemnity settlement?0

Tell the shop you will get the insurer to write the cheque to someone who will take it. Their loss. You can get Pandora bracelets in lots of places, the shop shouldn't be so difficult.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
