Growing over winter

Hi I've bought some japanese onions it says to sow sept-dec will I have to cover them with cloches if the weather is bad also cauliflowers do they need to be covered and what about swede or would I be wasting my time.?thanks

If it doesn't say to cover you should be ok. I've grown a few things in the winter in our garden and the most sucess was with broad beans (actually grown as green manure not for the crop).
I have no come to the conclusion it is actually better not to plant out though as you don't get that much advantage now the spring is generally a month earlier than say 20 years ago......0
