homeless and claiming IB

My friend is claiming IB she never claimed Housing Benefit or anything and used to live with her mother my friend is now homeless because her mother has gone into an old peoples' home due to mental illness my friend is now homeless and are looking for a place to live the problem is her post used to come to her mother's flat and she is now worrying about any post that relates to her IB I told her she can use my address but we are wondering if that would her benefit at all because she will now have a different address and different borough she is not living with me she will just use my address until she find somewhere suitable to live and where her posts can be sent.

any reply would be much appreciated.

I don't understand. Presumably she doesn't intend to remain homeless? Why doesn't she find out about LHA and rent a flat? How old is she?

Read up on homelessness on the Shelter and Crisis websites to understand your friends options to address her homelessness - get her to speak to these housing experts.

I don't really know about that one I don't see why it should affect my benefit I am a lone parent on income support at the moment through ill health I am only letting her post coming to me as a safe place for her letters she is not staying with me as I don't have the space with two bedrooms place besides I know the complications with regards to benefits I like to stay clean when it comes to benefit I have the bare minimum and survive on that the best I can I do not wish for trouble. The mother's place is a communal with two flats both the mother and her neigbour shared the same corridor and front door so at the moment her post will just be posted within the communal area which is not safe anyway as the flat downstairs the guy have lots of people coming in and out all the time so I've volunteered to have her post to me but of course we ae having to be careful with her benefit because I am on benefit as well for the moment.

She is sleeping at friend's house at the moment but can't stay there for long and my place is the only safe place for her post. I've told her I ring the dwp for her about the adress but she is petrified of loosing her benefit poor woman has had a very hard time with her mother for the past 3 years and now that.

Thanks everyone for all your advice and replies it's all sorted I got my friend to ring the dwp herself apparently you can have a change of address of your choices it is very common in London phew! we can all rest now. It is only for her mail.
