Hi Erics Mum
Gants Hill, Goodmayes and Barkingside are out of reach I'm afraid (until the million pound prize on the Premium Bonds comes through!). Chadwell Heath and Hainault seem potentially nice areas. Ideally I would prefer somewhere with a tube line. That's a really good idea about checking out the areas at potentially troublesome times to get a feel for the area.0 -
Thanks muskoka. The houses near Elm Park tube (Elm Park Avenue, Diban Avenue) seem really nice so that's a shame. I'll go and look around Hornchurch soon.
Do go and have a look, don't take people's word for it. That part of Elm Park is very pleasant with good schools and facilities, transport etc. I worked in Elm Park for a couple of years and I would say it's infinitely preferable to where you are now.
If you go for a scout around pop into the Newsagents shop on the corner of Behurst Avenue (near the station) The owner is an Asian man who has lived and worked in the area for many years. I'm certain he'd be happy to share his viewpointThanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
I would agree, however, about South Hornchurch;), which is really Rainham (but South Hornchurch sounts better)
It's a very long way from there to a tube station.
Beware also that Hornchurch Station is not in Hornchurch Town centre as such. You might have a look at Upminster Bridge and Cranham also. Upminster is very expensive still. Try a Rightmove search on RM14 and see if anything takes your fancyThanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
Speaking to the newsagent owner is a brilliant idea rach29. Thanks!0

Are there some areas of Hornchurch south of Hornchurch road that are ok? As the further you get towards Upminster obviously the larger the price rises are.
It seems that something semi decent (3 bed semi) is around £250 to 270k?0 -
We are asian family lives in elm park hornchurch for 4 years now and we move away because of abuse by racist people. We live with with people spitting shouting abuse emptying bins in front garden and tires slash on car. We tell police but trouble continue as many gang involve.0

Hornchurch is okay - went for dinner there recently
and a bloke at work lives there. Agree, Elm Park's not that nice.
Also look at Highams Park (where I am) and Chingford (both in E4). Not bad and fairly affordable. Certain roads aren't so nice so if you do look there, feel free to name roads and I'll say what I know!
I'd avoid Gants Hill, personally. Used to be alright, but there's so much shutting down there.
Parts of Romford are still okay too.
Used to get the Central Line from Hainault every day. Hainault's okay in parts but wouldn't be my first choice.
Good luck.

I am looking to move to Emerson Park/Hornchurch with my mother - we are Indian. Can anyone please advise me if the areas are safe? I work in central London and need access into London. Sadly we cannot afford anything 'decent' on the central line i.e. Loughton, Chigwell, Buckhurst Hill etc. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.0

I grew up in Hornchurch and only left recently and would say that parts of it are very nice, others like South Hornchurch and Elm Park not so nice. Emerson Park is the 'posh' bit with the massive houses.
But it often depends on a lot of things eg. The road I grew up on, one end was nice, the other was not particularly nice.0
