Belfast Sink Woes

Can anyone help? I went to a reclamation yard at the weekend and saw a small belfast sink (half the size) think it might be a butlers sink. We really want this style of sink for our new kitchen but Magnet charge about £200 for one! This was in good nick so bought it for £20...have I made a terrible mistake?

worried now that we won't be able to fit it? Also it seem ot have lip all the way around where as Belfasts usually have a straight front for the exposed part?

any clues?

Don't see why you couldn't fit it? Most kitchen can be adapted to have different size sinks fitted.

No offence but whatever the outcome the fact you have paid £20 can hardly mean you have made a terrible mistake!! Just sell it on ebay / local paper if no good

This is very true- or use it as a planter in the kitchen...any clues what I need to buy other than the sink itself? It has the plug hole and short tube but you can also buy 'waste units' etc-- no idea!

You can buy all you need to fit the plug hole and drainage to connect it up properly.

All you need to decide is what type of taps and where you put them, not that they connect to the sink in any way

Just found out you can't fit a blefast sink to a laminate worktop :-( we were originall having wood but after the huge cost and maintenence we switched to oak effect laminate- now we can't have our country sink :-(

Our belfast sink isn't attached in anyway to the worktop. There is a cut-out round the space where the sink sits.

I would imagine that is the issue - moisture would get in the open end of the laminate and presumably blow the laminate eventually. Not an issue if you have a solid worktop.
We got told the same when we looked at kitchen last year.

Assumed the OP was having a solid worktop

Yes our belfast has a cut out for it - though we do have solid wood and drainers bevelled in. I wish we had stuck with the original granite work top idea to be honest as we have noticed lots of little black marks on the wood where apparently water can get in even though its been oiled a thousand times :( Still the oak was £3k less than the granite, so cant moan really.

I know what you mean about the marks. After a while you stop crying and just live with it!

If I had known how difficult wood was to look after I wouldn't have bothered.

I think we shall have to sand ours down again and re-oil it when we get the time.
