Direct Line are very good. I pay £12 a month for 2 cats and I got cashback through quidco

Strange question but you're not on housing or council tax benefit are you? If yes read this, it amounts to free insurance. http://www.pdsa.org.uk/pdsa-vet-care/eligibility/
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • no i am not.
  • In my experience, insurance is prob not worth it. Most policies seem to have £100 excess on them, and most treatments cost approx £70-100 for things like abcess, scratches etc.

If a cat gets more hurt than that, they noramlly wander off to die somewhere on their own. Sad but true.

Hi and welcome, you may want to put this over on the pet board as there are many threads on the subject.

Basically, if you want "for life" insurance the most recommended is AXA. For life, is where the pot of money is filled up again every year. Some insurance sites are very misleading and they talk of "ongoing cover" which people sometimes believe means "for life" cover but in fact the amount that can be claimed is limited to the pot of money which is never topped up. Probably in the majority of cases the set limit (say £7k) of these non for life policies are ok but for those whose pets develop a lifetime chronic condition or serious injuries/need serious ops, then they would not be sufficient and you would be left on your own at some point.

(Missi, I think you will find DirectLine is not genuine "for life")

We are with Tescos, and got the first year at half price, although now it is over £20 a month for 3 cats.
Our excess is £50 so, in that sense the routine stuff like cuts and abcesses are barely covered. However, when our cat was seriously injured he crawled back home, and due to having the insurance we were able to afford to have the vet investigate how severe his injuries were, and happily get him treatment. Unless you are willing to get moggie put down for treatable illnesses and injuries, or have a few thousand pounds you can spare, then I highly recommend pet insurance. It has certainly been worth it for us.
