quick sat nav question

i'm in the middle of looking for a sat nav and have decided to go for a garmin nuvi model
can it be run from the cars power supply or can they only be recharged once their own battery has run out

    They can be charged in the car at the same time they are being used.
    Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

    I take it your not close to a phone upgrade as you can get free sat nav with 1 of the latest smart phones

    i'm not really a mobile phone person , i do have one but £10 worth of credit lasts 2-3 months sohaving a contract would be a waste of cash
