Ikea EKTORP Sofa Bed (Havet)..any good?

My old Ikea sofa from about 13 years ago has finally gone, Ive had springs replaced recently but its no good

Looking around today, Laura Ashley, Furniture Village and yes DFS against my better judgement, I just cant find anything that is the right shape and firm enough. A lot of the styles that I would absolutely love, are so soft that I cant get out of them and thats bad for my back.

So we ended up in Ikea. The Ektorp is more or less the same shape as the one I have now and it felt nice, it is also cheap compared to the Laura Ashley types. but, the ones they had on display that we sat on, are sofas, if possible, I would try and get a sofa bed for more sleeping areas, but I dont know what these would be like to sit on.

Has anyone got one of these, what do they feel like to sit on regularly. I work from home and use my lap top on the sofa so am on it pretty much all day.

from the very forum suggested by downshifter

"unofficial ektorp fabric sofa spokeperson here.

you're looking at klobo and klippan - a very different design from what you now have. please consider going back to ikea- lakeside and try the highly-versatile/excellently-valued ektorp line. ektorp has a two-seater (what i think you have in mind) and a three-seater. it's absolutely comfortable without that sinking feature. at your height, i don't think you'll need extra support. my son is at home most of the day (summer break) and we've had no problems for three years - he is 6ft, over 90kg, and very much the gamer. thank goodness the (large selection of) covers can be washed"

A new one won't feel anything like the one you sat on which will have been sat on by hundreds if not thousands of people before you. Some of them may have bounced up and down on it too :)

  • Hiya puddy,
We've got one of these as a sofa bed - a three seater and it's great. We've got three young children and they have hammered the sofa every day since we got it 4 years ago but the cushions are still OK, although the I'm thinking about replacing the covers as we've washed them so many times.
As an occasional sofa bed it's very comfy and has stood the test of time with a fairy regular flow of visitors.
My only other warning would be that it is massive - the biggest sofa IKEA do so check you can get it in and out of the house!

thanks maggies mummy, thats the information i need really, its not about the ektorp sofa, its about the ektorp sofa bed as a sofa. im not really bothered about the comfort of the sofa bed itself as it wont be me sleeping on it(!), but its about the firmness of the sofa bed when using as a sofa

do you feel the mechanism under the cushions when you are sitting down??

should be ok, its the same size as the one i have, and to spruce mine up recently i put the 3 seater ektorp slip covers on it, so it should be exactly the same
