Wondered if someone clever can tell me what to do!
Kitchen light didn't come on the other day, checked the bulbs, one blown but other two (GU10's) were fine, so replaced that, checked the trip switch (not tripped) but still no light. Today I've replaced the whole light fitting and still no light!! Have checked the pull cord fitting and that all seems fine, can I do anything or is it sparky time?

If you are confident enough to change the light fitting, I'm guessing I'd be wasting my time by asking if you have checked for a live feed at the rose?

At the risk of sounding like an utter blonde, no I haven't checked yet, cos I need to get the checker thingy!! But I am quite confident [STRIKE]stupid[/STRIKE] to try most things! I am guessing that the isn't a live feed at the rose, as everything else is okay and fitted properly!

If it is only the kitchen light that is affected, then you have either lost a live or neutral (obviously).

At this point I'd advise you to get a sparks in, because running around with the "checker thingy" doesn't sound that good to me.

Thanks for the help and advice, off to find a sparky! I am terrible at remembering the proper words for things, hence the 'checker thingy', but I know when I am out of my depth :rotfl:
Nearly as silly as the time I had to replace my 'plug thingy' in my bath, and the guys in the shop nearly pee'd themselves once they told me I was looking for a 'waste outlet' :o

Sounds like the transformer has gone and needs replacing.

At this point I KNOW I am out of my depth, as I don't know what that is, although I may know it as a 'wiggly thingy' of course :D

Is it a 12V (low voltage) light fitting? If so it will have a transformer connected to it reduce the mains voltage to 12V. if it is a 240V fitting then it won't. Look at the packaging for the new one if not sure.
If it is a 12V, it may be the transformer that has blown. If so, you're going to be a bit narked at having bought an entire new fitting.

GU10 is 240v, no need for a tranny.

If theres no live feed to the light might be worth checking the switch for loose/broken wire or faulty switch which is easiest thing first, failing that could be lost live/neutral from the wiring coming to the fitting
