outlook express has all my e-mail ?

Options
Story so far , we had to have a new hard drive in our computer. Some info was transferred off old hard drive to new.

We have our email with btinternet and I needed to set up the account in outlook express, eg. another@btinternet.com. My account is the subaccount and I have just set it up ( just asked husband and he has not set up the main account yet). I thought all was well when I saw outlook express picking up all incoming mail but when I check my e-mail while in btyahoo all my incoming mail has gone. My incoming mail used to still 'live' in yahoo even after outlook express had also picked it up.

What have I done wrong ? How can I fix this please

Many thanks

You forgot to select "keep emails on server" in the settings. POP3 normally downloads all your emails and deletes it from the server. Check whether your BT account also supports IMAP. If yes, set it up with IMAP in addition to the existing account and then drag'n'drop all emails into the inbox of the IMAP account. If this successfully finishes, you can delete the POP3 account.

BT Internet email is powered by Yahoo and does not offically support IMAP at the current time (with the exception of Zimbra desktop client which allows IMAP access to any Yahoo account, but lets not confuse the OP)

But this seems to be the only way to get the emails back onto the server. Since version 2 Zimbra Desktop supports moving emails between different accounts.

I think another way of doing it was changing your location to Yahoo!Asia which enables IMAP IIRC.

How did you manage to get the emails back onto the server?

I did not try to get my e-mails back onto my server, but not to worry. I like to keep the e-mails on my server for a while , I then have a tidy up and pick them up in outlook express. I have not lost anything important.

    It'll be a fresh start :p. It'll do me good !

Is there not also an option to 'keep on server for x days'?-which saves you the bother of housekeeping.

It would help if you said what email program you are using, which ISP, and what OS you are running?
But assuming Outlook Express and XP, this might help.

It's an issue with the mail server authentication.
